The word <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.francescmorera.com\/galeriasTemas\/sadhus.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sadhu<\/a><\/strong>, or <strong>holy man<\/strong> refers to mystics, ascetics, yogis, and mendicant monks living on the margins of society. They cut all family ties, do not have possessions and reduce their needs to the minimum to focus on achieving a higher reality. They depend on the charity of people to survive because they cannot work. And the donations made to them are considered as &#8220;offerings to the gods&#8221; that promote the accumulation of good karma.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/16.Chowk_n.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-83988 alignleft lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/199;margin-top: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px;\" title=\"16.Chowk_n\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/16.Chowk_n-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Sadhu in Varanasi\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/16.Chowk_n-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/16.Chowk_n-450x300.jpg 450w, https:\/\/anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/16.Chowk_n.jpg 905w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><\/a>The sadhus are respected and feared as &#8220;holy men or messengers of God&#8221; and they are attributed supernatural powers, including the ability to throw curses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Only 10% of them are women, called <strong>sadhvis<\/strong>, which usually take this route after having widowed, it is almost the only respectable way of escaping the &#8220;living death&#8221; that are exiled by society.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The basic pillar of Hinduism is the belief in reincarnation, a cycle of death and rebirth that is repeated endlessly, also called <strong>samsara<\/strong>. The Hindu aspiration is to get their reincarnations as favorable as possible. This requires to accumulate <strong>good karma<em>.<\/em><\/strong> The karma, good or bad is related to the good or bad actions that one performs in life, is a causal reaction, cause = result. The highest aspiration of every individual is the release of this cycle that makes you born again and again to suffer and reach <strong>Nirvana<\/strong> or enlightenment. Spiritual enlightenment has always supposed the higher vital goal, and is a state of existence that is possible for everyone. In the <strong>Kumbh Mela<\/strong> festival, which takes place every three years, can meet hundreds of thousands of them from all sects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Also Nepal is another country where there are thousands of them, as it is the only country where the official religion is Hinduism. In the surroundings of <strong>Pashupatinath<\/strong>, Kathmandu, the most important temple dedicated to <strong>Shiva<\/strong>, live hundreds of them. We can observe how some will inflict all sorts of tortures like sleeping on a bed of nails, walking on coals, take years standing &#8230; such is the degree of control of their mind. The physical tortures are a mean to achieve supernatural powers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-93283 size-full lazyload\" title=\"Pashupatinath at Kathmandu\" data-src=\"https:\/\/anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/pashupatinath.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"500\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/pashupatinath.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/pashupatinath-300x75.jpg 300w, https:\/\/anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/pashupatinath-1024x256.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/pashupatinath-768x192.jpg 768w, https:\/\/anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/pashupatinath-1536x384.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/pashupatinath-350x88.jpg 350w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 2000px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 2000\/500;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #b19356;\">Sects of Hinduism<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although the Hindu pantheon has more than 330 million gods, the main ones are: <strong>Brahma<\/strong> (the creator), <strong>Vishnu<\/strong> (the preserver) and <strong>Shiva<\/strong> (the destroyer).<br \/>\nThere are two major ascetic sects: the <strong>Shivaite<\/strong> or Saivas and <strong>Vishnuites<\/strong> or Vaishnavas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Shivaite<\/strong> or followers of Shiva are recognizable because they draw the front with three horizontal lines representing the three impurities that Shiva wanted to destroy with the ascetic search: selfishness, desire, action with desire and maya.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jaipur_176.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"attachment noopener wp-att-5958 noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-84808 size-medium lazyload\" title=\"Sadhu at Jaipur\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/Jaipur_176-227x300.jpg\" alt=\"Sadhu at Jaipur\" width=\"227\" height=\"300\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jaipur_176-227x300.jpg 227w, https:\/\/anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jaipur_176.jpg 606w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 227px) 100vw, 227px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 227px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 227\/300;\" \/><\/a>The <strong>Vishnuites<\/strong> or followers of Vishnu and its reincarnations, (especially Rama and Krishna) and are recognized by the vertical lines painted on his forehead.<br \/>\nBoth groups do not leave anyone indifferent, as their appearance is often more than bizarre trying to emulate Gods as they are described in the myths and legends. Certainly you will not find two dressed or just painted alike.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the case of Shivaites , many of them wander naked, they are the <strong>Nagas<\/strong>, thus symbolizing his renunciation of the world of mortals. They often carry the body covered with ash that traditionally comes from the cremations, which symbolize death and rebirth&#8230; Others choose not to cut his hair (Jatta) as a sign of material renunciation, and wear two meters dreadlocks tucked below the turban. The <strong>jattas<\/strong> represent the power accumulated by the <strong>sadhu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/12.Sant_als_Chhatris_2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-83987 lazyload\" title=\"Sadhu in the Chhatris of Orchha\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/12.Sant_als_Chhatris_2-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Santon en los Chhatris de Orccha\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/12.Sant_als_Chhatris_2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/anamoralesblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/12.Sant_als_Chhatris_2.jpg 680w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 225px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 225\/300;\" \/><\/span><\/a>Another Shivaite sect are the <strong>Aghoris<\/strong>, which are surrounded by death and eat human flesh; emulating the most extreme characteristics of <strong>Shiva<\/strong> as conqueror of death: live around the areas of cremation and bathe in the ashes of funeral pyres; adorn with skulls and bones and take drugs, in a kind of dementia transgression of all Hindus and ascetic taboos convinced that it accelerates the enlightenment. Aghoris are attributed the horrific rituals in which is practiced the necrocanibalism. They &#8220;communion&#8221; with putrid flesh of corpses, they eat excrement and drink urine and copulate with prostitutes.<br \/>\nThe Aghoris represent an ancient tradition and there have been times when the sect was very large.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Also among the <strong>Shivaites<\/strong> to mention two more sects: the <strong>Udasin<\/strong> (<strong>Sikh<\/strong> origin, they worship the holy book of the Sikhs) and <strong>Yogis<\/strong> (devotees of <strong>Shiva<em>,<\/em><\/strong> though in his manifestation as <em>Bhairava<\/em>, they worship <em>Hanuman<\/em> and <em>Dattatreya<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the case of <strong>Vishnuites<\/strong><em>,<\/em> the most important sect are the <strong>Ramanandis<em>,<\/em><\/strong> but there are two more, <strong>Tyagis<\/strong> and <strong>Sakhis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Tyagis<\/strong>, like the Shivaite <strong>nagas<\/strong> are naked.
